By Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) & Boston Consulting Group (BCG)
The report analyzes the resilience of the global semiconductor supply chain amid disruptions and shifting geopolitics. While geographic specialization has driven decades of innovation and cost efficiency, over 75 % of global chip production remains concentrated in East Asia, creating systemic vulnerabilities.
Between 2024 and 2032, the report projects ~USD 2.3 trillion in wafer-fab investments worldwide, with the U.S. potentially capturing 28 % of new capacity – up from 9 % previously. The authors argue that balanced resilience, not full self-sufficiency, is key: countries should diversify supply networks, expand design & R&D incentives, and strengthen semiconductor workforce pipelines.
